On December 19th 2021, the Ooze Foundation hosted our third annual Oozemas Holiday Toy Drive for underprivileged kids in the Detroit community. Although we couldn’t throw a big party inside due to the pandemic, we were still able to set up shop outside with Santa and his reindeer! Everyone was able to drive right up to receive their gifts and experience holiday magic while still being as safe as possible.
While Oozemas is only one day a year, the event is a month-long process for the Foundation team. This year, we handed out 1,000 gifts which is the most gifts to date. This took multiple strategic shopping trips as our team searched the shelves for amazing toys for children ages 0-18. One week prior to the event, we had our Ooze elves get together to tackle the massive task of wrapping every presents. We set up gift-wrapping stations in our warehouse where our team was able to wrap each present in record time. We even sorted every gift by age/gender to make giving them out as seamless as possible!
Oozemas was a drive-thru event again this year so, we had the Detroit Police Department provide security to direct traffic and keep the line moving. Our team put the gifts directly into each trunk while Santa greeted every child to wish them a happy holiday. Fox 2 Detroit and ABC WXYZ even stopped by to check out the action!
“This is our third annual Oozemas and one of our favorite events of the year,” said Ooze Foundation Director Shelly Hurwitz. “We are giving away 1,000 toys today and although it might be cold outside our hearts are very warm helping make the holidays a little brighter by spreading love to these amazing kids in our community”
Even though the nation is still dealing with a pandemic, our team was so happy to be able to help ease the burden of the holidays which can be a stressful time for underprivileged communities. By giving every child a wonderful gift to open up on Christmas morning, we hope to make their holiday special!
